Ok, for the next weeks i am unable to code, due to the fact that after my accident i’ve been assigned to rest, and i am unable to concentrate for more than 2 minutes… but i can still post, as some people already read on vb.com…

So, i’ve been thinking of something in the last months, since i’ve questioned the staff at vb.com about some enhancements and features lightening because i had bugs with existing functions in vB… The only official answers i could get were like this:

so do i ask at vb.org? are you serious… that site is not even supported by the company that created it.

i decided that the best place where to ask was here, at home. but how can we deal with questions about coding… so we will not!… we will provide tutorials and how-tos for coders, which is way better than giving examples of what to do…

so it’s pointless for the visitors to ask for any code here, i will simply move the request or even delete them if i see fit. This is not a forum for code requests, it’s a knowledge base, a place where you ask for something specific you can not answer by the regular means… like a SDK or a Code Book… 🙂

I’ve been working on this for a bit.. it’s pretty neat right now..

It’s an affiliate engine.. not like these ones which will just put a marquee of scrolling banners at the bottom of your site, this will be much more… with a page for linking, a page for displaying of the affiliates (hopefully with who submitted them and such) and a page for submitting your affiliate banners..

Just wanting to show my progress as I’m quite pleased so far (even though I know it’s not much).. may need some help further down the line though :grin_Wink:

At 3:50 this morning, i received a sms from [user]nexia[/user], from the hospital and he asked me to close the support on vbE for a couple of days, as he had an accident and will not be online for a period. I called home, and his wife told me he was waiting for the bus to come back home, he was pushed by a guy on the border of the street when the bus was stopping… He is not dead as she said, and he is not harmed that much… his right arm was hit, and his MacBook btw, is a complete loss… but who cares!

I do not have more information about the accident, but nexia is never sick or really bad, so i suppose he will recover soon.

I’ll keep everybody informed of the situation as i have more informations to provide. I’m not used to post on this forum, but i’ll try my best.

In the last weeks i’ve been testing a small and simple script that was able to alter your files without the need for you to edit them by hand *(avoiding at the same time to possibility to break everything)…

So this small piece of script will be inserted into the distribution of any product requiring file edits here … there are rare, but i will update them with the new system when i update them generally.

Just to inform you of the protocol used, it is quite simple. If the file is found, the script will grab its entire content, will verify if the modification was already made, will erase that version, then will install the modification anew, to be sure it is the latest version. 100% of the time it will be hooks added, instead of large pieces of codes, so there is no chance that we mess up your files.

Using Hooks in these modifications make the system safe, as you can disable the product or delete it, and do not fear to break anything. We’ve often seen other coders requiring file edits but « forgot » to tell how to uninstall or were making the code so unsafe that when the script had errors it was breaking the whole forum. Hooks are safe because deactivated when the product is disabled and they are also deactivated when there is nothing to hook it to *(if you uninstall the product)…

Summary: Post Icons to replace the default vbulletin stock post icons. Additional custom Post Icons are added that you will need to add via the admincp >> post icons manager.

Installation: Upload to your /icons folder. Because they come in .png format you will have to change the extension from .gif to .png in the post icon manager.

Additional Info: The poll_posticon.png icon gets uploaded into your misc folder and not your icons folder. You may need to create a replacement variable for this icon as the default format is .gif.

Don’t ask for additional support why I didn’t release .gif variants, I won’t wipe peoples arses anymore. Everything you need is in this thread, so please refrain from asking for a .gif format which comes with matting problems had I released this format.

Ok, so first week of september, everybody who had to go back to school is now there, and that makes me complete solo on this site for the next months… In addition, it’s the same thing in real life, everybody above 5 years old is now back to school even in my home, and that means i will have 2 kids around me all the time, no matter what.

So instead of being stressed out by the release of some commercial tools i would not be able to finish on due time, i decided to push all these releases in the Homeworks forum so if a different coder is interested to put some time on them, they are available. Besides, that gives me the opportunity to debug all existing complimentaries and release a new bunch of these small tools during the schooltime.

Right now i’m on one single contract, making my time useful to one client only. But once this contract is completed, i’ll be free to provide more gadgets.

I see vBulletin 4.0 coming fast for the next weeks, i suppose i’ll receive the beta as soon as it is released, and i « may » put a test version somewhere, but my priority is to provide support for the 3.8.x generation for the next year, so you will not see me switch to 4.0.

So that’s it… i’m now a single man, with 2 kids under 5 at home, working sparetime to provide support for his official work…

I’m trying to add this in plug both for header and footer.What I’m trying to do is incorporate the wordpress skin with vb.It worked on my local server but going live its not working
