universal impex password retriever

phpBB, IPB, MyBB, these systems usually have incompatible password saving process that is different from vB, and then, when you import a forum into vBulletin, you loose passwords, so members have to reset them…

how pointless.

i’ve done it in the past for a client, so i suppose i can replicate it, even if it is 5 years ago… and no source code!

in ImpEx, import the password anyway, AND tag the usertable with a new field called « importedfrom », and the entry will be the forum name it was inported from.

>> Roger with password XXXXX from phpbb

the login form have to be modified to also record the original password entered in the field, without hashing it with the javascript… i personally disable the javascript, but i suppose we can duplicate what we enter in the field in a hidden field. if not, we simply disable the javascript.

when the user click to login, two processes are added:

1- the unhashed password is filtered into the verif of the system « importedfrom »… and hit against the password saved in the dB.
2- after approved password, the hashed password is saved to replace the old password. and the « importedfrom » is emptied so the process will not do it again.

that way, we do not have to filter all passwords on ImpEx, each time an imported user log-in, the system will simply update the password with the proper hash.

i’ll do this with phpBB as it is free and we have access to the process. if i find the one of IPB i let you know… 🙂

wanna play with this?

i want to have stunning engines for INET, they have to notice that we work better than their staff.

Ok, the fun is over…

Hello,

Apologies for the delayed reply. Yes, Don and I would be interested in talking further with you about this, however, we simply are too buried with work leading up to the release of 4.0.

If it’s okay with you, I would like to propose that we continue the discussion shortly after 4.0 is released. Would that work for you?

Thanks!

-Ray

What that mean, is that we will not release anything related to MTF or anyother big engine until i have a solid discussion with Ray. I applied to the INET enrolement program, they decided i was one of the best prospects of the year.

I can not guaranty anything based on the discussions i had with Ray and Don, but if the Product Manager and the General Manager are willing to discuss the integration of MTF into the future vBulletin, we will have to stay focus and shut-up… rofl

You can do whatever you want with the MTF, if you don’t care about Jelsoft… you’re the actual owner of that script after all… but if i were you, i would wait until Ray put a signature in the bottom of a contract… lol we never know, they may even ask us to work the entire vB 5.0… 🙂 with the budget that goes with it.

different project: forum duplicator

Forum Duplication Tool – vBulletin.org Forum

download this if you dare… rofl

i want to reuse this code for something new… ok, the engine is not workingfor 3.8, we just need to rehearse it with a OOP view, if you want, it’s not complicated, a simple class would do. but my goal right now is different.

 • this tool to be reworked for 3.8
 • this tool to export forum structure in a .xml file … exact same structure, but only the structure, what we see in the forum table, starting the hierarchy with the forum we choose… but instead of duplicating, we choose the button « export »
 • this tool to re-import the forum structure, where we can choose a parent forum or no parent, like in forum creation.

why?

 • for site admins with multiple forums who want to replicate a forum or two.
 • for site admins who want the structure of a friends forum, so people can share their structures.
 • for site admins who want to start a new forum with the same structure as the other one, without its content.

😉

the only thing i can not do is the import/export process, as the xml side is bugged on my side. i played with it a lot with this tool: https://unpapapro.com/vbe-complimentaries/backup-style/4901/ but that’s all… rofl

what is needed is to make it universal to any forum site… when exporting a forum tree, the parent have to be forumid #1 … on import, the forumid have to be transformed exactly like we see in KirbyDE/Andreas duplicator tool… that’s why i want to show you… 😉

it’s a summer job, if i may say… these complicated gadgets are not really for release, i want IB to see the possibilities we can offer, so i try to expose all our possible ideas in the near future. if IB is not interested, we still have the tools and we will make a lot of advertising with it…

just this duplicator, we can easily have a club where people share their forum structure.. rofl

Registration process is now fix, welcome!

In the last 2 days there was a little bug regarding the registration… an error in the « Language Driven Forums » was causing a php error i did not notice yet because the server was not reporting it…. now it is fixed and you can register again to the site…

welcome!

On august first, a decision was made…

on this unofficial date of july 1st 2009, i had to face the situation that i was overwhelmed with « too much work, not enough time » to execute everything… so instead of having a burn-out and depressing due to a lack of energy, i decided it was time to focus on specific projects in this life…

Not everybody here know that i own a bunch of websites big enough to compete the biggest forum fans, but in fact, i was the owner of 54+ forums, all driven by vBulletin. You understand why i was focussing on coding little hacks for vB lately.. 🙂

That is a part of vbEnhancer.com that you know only when you read my posts on vb.com and on these forums i own… but quite frankly, nobody follow me there. I had religion related communities, parenting groups, comic fans sites, and some other coding teams, for a total of 54, the last was bought last month and is already back to his owner after a complete restructuration.

That’s the goal of my personal business though, taking-over projects that are in difficulties, and rebuilding them when possible, or merging the others with existing sites. It’s not a complicated job, it can take me like 10 hours per month to execute all the checkups etc… nothing fancy, and nothing that block me from coding for vbE…

The big problem was mainly to maintain discussions with most of the admins of these sites, as i was not the one dealing with site management. I was merely checking over the shoulder of these admins…

I had a meeting with these admins in the last weeks, and it was decided that i would be quicker than planned on giving back that ownership to all the site admins i had under my hand. For the ones unable to drive their sites as they are now, they will now be sponsored by other experimented admins who have learned from the experience and are ready to go with more responsabilities. That’s something very interesting because some guys abandonned, some took-over, mainly because i showed them it was possible and not complicated when we were structured and organised. I saw some admins build staff teams that are now very efficient, and this is something i like a lot. You can imagine that a parenting site is hard to deal with; it’s very complicated to find staff that will fit…

So that’s it… from the 54 websites i had under hand, the count is now at 14 and going down… at the end of this week, i will have 2 websites left, which are the one you’re actually on, and a project that still is on paper only, Smalah.com, a parenting site of my own *(first a time).

The move was quick, the decision was made that the original site owners take-back what we dealt in the past, as it was in the contract that once the sites are ready to live on their own again i would let go… but some sites are longer to deal with…

In this whole adventure, i had two steps… some guys here know that last year i abandonned part of the sites i was taking care of, i gave-back about 30 or 35 sites i had under hand… each year i drop some of these sites when they are mature enough… but that’s not always the end, i usually take-over 2 or 3 sites per month for years… i get used to do that kind of stuff… but now i think it’s enough, i have to focus on my own projects… restarting vbEnhancer.com as it is supposed to be, and building my own community for parents. After a total of more/less 200 take-overs in the last 5 years, i think i have enough experience to drive my own site and make it big…

So i wish myself some luck, i will need some… :grin_Confused:

$replace using a custom template

Not really sure if OK to ask here, since this question isn’t exactly related to this website.

In short, I’m lost why one code is, and an almost similar code isn’t working.

Working:
$search = addslashes(‘‘);
$replace = addslashes(‘ test’);

$vbulletin->templatecache = str_replace($search, $replace.$search, $vbulletin->templatecache);
Not working:
$search = addslashes(‘‘);
$replace = $vbulletin->templatecache;

$vbulletin->templatecache = str_replace($search, $replace.$search, $vbulletin->templatecache);
Working:
