I hate it when the download/views count is reset to 0 when we re-upload the attachment itself… how not useful if we want to have the total of views…

so we have two solutions:

1- simply not reset the count
2- do not reset AND add a seperate count for latest re-upload

a french-speaking parenting community is in need of a complete style for the forum and main site.

it’s a vBulletin forum, with a home-made portal and specific design for each sections of the site, like Articles, Discussions, Games, etc… so the variations on the main style have to be minimal.

my magic number for colors is 336699 if you go outside for the primary color, you will have to justify it.

we have a logo, typologo and tagline/slogan, do not bother with these, use anything to replace it.

Some people already know that vbEnhancer.com is now the place where to look at when we talk iTrader. The goal is to provide support and upgrade for this great engine, because Jason* is unable to provide support anymore due to real life commitments.

So now is the official announcement for the new release to come, as i received more than enough emails asking for this upgrade in the last week, due to a leak on vb.org…

Here is the plans for the next days. I have no deadline for the delivery, because i have to evaluate what is left to be done, as i received Gio~logist addons for iTrader only two days ago and i’m not finished recoding them. They will be fully integrated to the new version, and i will provide a HowTo for the ones who already have these addons on their sites, so i have to write that documentation too.

I’m also reading all the discussions of the official release on vb.org, to find the bugs and the fixes that goes with them, and i’m checking if some requests can be fulfilled with this first re-release. This is hard time as i can not focus more than 2 hours per day on this task, as my family life take over the virtual life of the internet — i know, some of you do not understand real life, but i am.

I have to recode the entire iTrader engine to make it a single-file built. It’s not complicated, but it have to be done once and bug free. I’m also writing the french language file because there are possibilities to use it in any language and i received some requests to have it in french.

So planned like this, i have to calculate at least 15 hours of work, split in about 10 days… so calculate a release to be around March 15th…

It’s good to hear you have picked up this project. Please reduce the number of queries this MOD was executing. At last count the query count was over 30 per page load. 😮

Stats, always stats, this is good, but hey, how can we track spiders without just pointing stats ?!

My Spiders Tracker is simple: each time a spider hit a page, the engine store that info in the dB… one hit, one entry. Ok, this add one query per page hit, on the other side, spiders have no access to most of the features of the vBulletin engine itself and they have 30% less queries for each page loaded than the regular visitors, so the server is not requested that much.

Why i do that tracker ?!… comparing to Google Analytics, my tracker will trace all activities from the spiders, making all their moves useful to see what pages are indexed, what pages are avoided, and where there is possible threats (because spiders usually visit any link they can, so a no-follow could be useful sometimes!)

This can also be a good engine for SEO… i suppose Lizard King can give more info on that..

So, what the system can track ?!

• each pages hit by a spider, with date and time
• each search queries coming from google, yahoo etc, and their page hit

What can we do with these:

• Verify the periods in days/weeks where spiders are visiting, making it easier to see where they are consuming server-side resources and what they search
• Verify how your sitemap is exploited by spiders (if you have one)
• Verify what pages are most visited (you can even put a page tracker displaying info like « this page was indexed X times by spiders »)
