Steep: Sea of Rust

To play this map, you can visit our server:  [Exposed] Sea of Thieves Mashup, a french speaking community of Sea of Thieves addicts*(Legion du Lys Noir)… they share their passion to piracy with you… be obliged… 🙂

This is the most extreme map you could imagine… a full 6000, with 20% land divised in more than 500 islands, small or large, and a lot of opportunities to set sail…

The scenario is simple; be a pirate and claim land and resources as yours.  Inspired by the game Sea of Thieves, this map/server is configured to be way more active on the sea than on the land.  By pirate, we mean you find the way to have a boat, grab 2 or 3 friends, and drive the place like your reputation depends on it.

A lot of symbols, a lot of pirate-related decors…. but no technology.  This is a real 1800’s pirate scenario.  If you happen to find a AK, you will tell yourself « shit, no ammo, this is going to the recycler »… Because we’re running this server with pirates in mind, with low-level weapons and no need for technology.

The fun is not in PVP… it is on Roleplaying the life of piracy.  Sailing away, taking lands by killing the locals*(zombies, murderers, scientists) and fighting, aborting other pirates boats and rafts.

The land, is rude, filled with bandits, with no monument, no roads, just wood, wild animals and small settlements.  There are some hidden treasures, locations that worth the look, and the feeling that something is always behind you, sneaking to hit you anytime.

Some great designers were attached to this first pitch of a project that will bring a complete set of « Pirate-related » monuments… the guys at Cobalt, and C0ini himself did a wonderful job with their Towers, Medieval Sets and others… Allard, Darkthunder, 38-Ra and some others are also noticed for their great work with their prefabs and monuments.

You have to visit the map to look at all this.  Niko participated as well, by giving me permission to edit his HMS-Race-Horse because i wanted a wrecked version in the season… Niko’s work is displayed on all our maps since the begining… he is amazing!

Our objective now that this first wipe is released, to have our own suite of monuments related to Pirates… We know some designers like C0ini who are working on Medieval-like content… We are searching for more features, plugins, skins etc…

so how does it work here?

So, what’s this site? people ask me often these last weeks…

This site is in many parts:

The showroom for the Custom Maps i create for my own [Exposed] servers.  If it is not for my own network of servers, the maps I created for server owners who deserve that you visit their server and play with the guys over there.  Each map shown usually has a list of prefabs with their author’s info, so you know where to buy these monuments for your own maps.

The showcase of things I think deserve to be advertised.  Some creators are building great monuments and prefabs, as other map makers are doing great jobs on maps, so I talk about what I know about them.

Some tutorials… to come… Where i explain how I generate these great designs and scenarios.  I may not create prefabs and monuments, but I try to use them to their full potential.  I also use RustEdit and other tools to generate the map terrain and mood for each theme.  My first pitch is usually to go on google and search for images that are related to the theme… like if we start a project that is « city » related, i need to see rusted cities and abandonned locations…

So, that’s it basically… I promote the work of great content designers, I chat about my own work, and I tell you how to do the same, because I’m available but not that much… 😉

If you’re a prefab/monument designer, I can showcase your work on any of my servers, if you want to advertise… just tell me, we can find some place to brighten your day!

ps: thanks for the effort, Leonardo!

I Found Someone (Remastered Audio) HQ – YouTube

(23) Michael Bolton “I Found Someone” The Essential 2005 HD – YouTube

… ne jamais frustrer Michael Bolton… 🙂

Server: New Adventure to come sail away

I’m guessing you’re a bit curious on what I’ll be releasing soon, because there was no winner for the Map contest this month…

Actually, we have a winner, and I’m on the work to create a complete different type of map… And it’s a surprise for the party, so I can not provide much information until it is released and the server made public – which will take a bit, because this week-end, my host is having a little problem with IP… he is not alone!

BTW, i can provide you with a hint… You see the top picture… this is what you see when you spawn.  a wrecked tower.

Behind you is a beach-like with a boat… no other resource… because that’s the point… you have to find your resources.

For this server, the only place you will be able to build your base/house, is on these small desolated islands. Work your way out to become famous or rich, and you will have all the resources you need… and maybe win the location of your dreams.

See, the forests, villages etc are on other islands, far away… only way to go there is by having a boat, preferably when you are hired by someone to go for free…

So, this is part of the map.. you spawn on the extreme east of it.  And if you go back to see the pictures above, you will find that it’s a abandonned faction of the military that was guarding the archipelago.

You know the story of Hapis, the original island where Rust started… This archipelago is just west of it.  You spawned there because your ship was thorn apart in a tsunami. And you are lucky if you’re not eaten alive by sharks

New thematic for this month’ map…

As you can imagine, the theme of the map I’m building right now is obvious… next big event on the calendar is the Valentine Day…

Somewhere this week-end, that map will be released and installed on the official server.  And it has nothing in common with anyother map or server configuration you may have encountered relatively to the Valentine…

This will be intense and mysterious… Find the scheme first and have fun playing on this different server!

Rust official Forced Wipe, jan. 07 2021

Pretty simple… as it’s a major wipe for the servers, I’ll be updating our server to a new map by the week-end, and take to profit the new update of today. First, some more roleplay elements, like the sofa and the hobo barrel.

I’ll be setting up a new server configuration by sunday morning, maybe sooner, depending on how long i have to work on that new map concept. But it will be based on latest events that brought thousands of new players to Rust, with roleplay and cosplay in mind… PVP will still be banned, because we don’t need this to have fun on Rust. You may accidentally kill someone, trespassing the pvp limit… but « Kill on Sight » and killing naked without a sash will be your doom.

Map: Steep – Black Hell

Ah, reproducing the original inspiring picture… my bad… from real life to Rust!

Commonly called the central pearl of the Solomon Islands(*1) where Hapis is located as well, Black Hell island is without a doubt wearing her name like a glove. The shock of the tectonic plates of the region have transformed this island into a rock hell. No place to install any industrial settlement, and no beach or valley to pass our vacations.

This island is the Maui version of the Indian Ocean. High cliffs and steep mountains, narrowed corridors and rock everywhere. This is why Cobalt stopped using that secluded island soon after their arrival. But hey, bandits and pirates stole Cobalt stuff to build their own facilities.

To connect to this server, you can search for  » EXPOSED  »  in the Play Game menu, Modded tab…

if you are far from us, you can use the console with F1 and type  » client.connect 149.56.27.199:25587  » … and go! (and re-click F1 to hide the console)… because this is our address.. 🙂

note: Our Asset Warmup and Spawning World are usually twice the time to load from other servers because we have a ton of extra cool features!

And if Elvis Presley was able to make a load of movies on the Hawaiian islands, who can not build bases on them?  Oh, and yes, the road used by Elvis on this video is located on the map, somewhere… find it! the girls are not dresses the same, tho…

Actually this map, like all the other maps I build, are more  » in real life-like  » than the majority of Rust maps, because I make them more like it.  trails are not supposed to be all flat and perfect… neither woods and mountains… and cliffs are not supposed to be 100% covered with stupid rocks.  And no, scientists are not supposed to be locked on their 2×2 space around them… they can run you up in the woods if you provoque them on the road.  And a bandit compound has a river that feed the swamp. real life…

Anyway, this place is not abandonned… Pirates and Bandits are making it very lively. Imagine Hapis without the passage of Cobalt. Beautiful forests and great sunrises across mountains. This is the best place for adventurers to have a great fun running and looting for survival.

Because yes, there are some real survivalists on the island… and what you find in a survivalist backyard?!  not one oil barrel, but many… same for loots!

There is not that much roads on the island. Mainly feet-made tracks from the indigenous people. And no big buildings, merely some two stories shacks or roadside-like buildings offered by our lovely bandits. Scientists still crawl the roads and sky in search of rads, and these damn tourists always making a mess by dropping trash on the roadsides.

Ok, it’s not logical to add « arctic » terrain to a place located in the middle of the Indian ocean, but hey, we had the possibility to make a little fun with it.  someplace lost in the middle of nowhere. Also, for clans and roamers, this island is the quintescence of challenges. Trenches for troops and harsh mountains for bases with secure locations. What more can you ask for base raids…

And if I tell you that some scientists are hidding facilities in the back of a mountain? At least they tried to install some company resources first, and the bandits took over.

Anyway… you spawn, naked on a beach… oh wait, no !!??? dafuk!

This map does not require a lot of customization to make it perfect for GAMERS… even the blue scientists have better loot without plugins, so why bother with a 5X or 10X when you just have to PVE… But as it’s a bit empty right now, I’ve added some plugins to spice up the pace of the game for the newbies on site.

There is some easter-eggs and challenges that are not puzzles actually.. like tracing the 90x tier3 loot boxes of the map, or find how to climb these great cliffs… because some have ropes, some are rock climbable… yeap this image is a complete vertical cliff you can climb on.

Here are the names of most of the creators of prefabs used on this custom map:

Cobalt, Coini, FireCrow, Grimland, Gruber, LAMBO7000, Nemesis, Nox, Robj, Rustbucketz, Star and Wheatley

*1: For the game reference only.  We were inspired by the island named Nggatokae, in the middle of the Marovo Lagoon inside the Solomon Archipel.  Hapis is supposely based on one of its neighbour as well (you will have a guess in the video below).  The only technological resource on the island is the Gatokae aerodrome, which I also replicate on the map.

*2: some tourist made a video representing his passage on the Nggatokae island, and it is just amazing… 90% of what you see in the video is found on the map… undersea fauna and flora are similar… so think of it as a proof that Rust is supposed to be located in the vicinity… 🙂

Ads: Niko’s Winter Galore…

My friend Niko is going big this winter, with his new release, a Ski Resort and a Santa Grotty…

To profit from the Sled released by Facepunch on the last Rust Update, this Resort with everything you need for a Ski Club related map is amazing decor!  The massive towers and the general structure of this monument is good for the hollidays.  Your Map Maker can take a minute to edit your map with this and put the Natural Spawn to be on top of the mountain, so everybody can sled thru the different slopes of this feature.

And as an addition, the Santa Grotty… bad santa, stole everything from the guys in the map, and hide it here… Your goal is to grab everything and take back everything to the kids in christmas…

isn’t it???

So, go by Codefling.com and purchase this great bundle for your winter map…

This Santa Grotty remembers me of the old but appreciated North Pole map in Enemy Territory… 10 years back… oh, so much fun in that!
